"He makes the grass grow for the livestock and provides crops for man to cultivate, bringing forth food from the earth" It's all because of Him. Regardless of all our labor, regardless of our techniques and our tricks, in the end God is the one who is sovereign. There are a lot of reason for homesteading, health, food independence, preparedness. But, everyone of those things is temporal. It doesn't matter if you survive the apocalypse or live until your 150 years old if you do not know, obey, and worship Christ. It's all for naught. If you don't know what i'm talking about or would like debate or discuss this topic further, please do so below, or hit me up privately.

Growing food is a pillar of homesteading. Share you thoughts, stories, and failures here. I'll start. I tend to grow more substantive foods than high value crops. I like the idea of gardening for calories, instead of price. Although I grow lots of things, my view is that my garden shouldn't be an add on to my grocery list, it should be the grocery list! Obviously this isn't easy, but its the goal. I do my best to implement a no-dig philosophy the best that I can. I am strongly against tilling as a general practice, but I think that every one has a different context that can't always be conquered by a single gardening technique. What are you thoughts?

Share your homesteading story here. It's always cool to hear about how other people started this journey. If you haven't ready my post on our journey(or if you reading this before I finish it), go check it out. Excited to read the pages of your book.

Fell free to cluck and clack about all things chickens related here. Have a questions, throw it in there. Have a tip, through it in there. Favorite breeds? Tell us more. I"ll start. Favorite Breeds: Black Australorp, Rhode Island Red, Buff Orpington, Barred Rock. Tips- If your not free rangeing, try a rotation system of some sort. Check out my post/video on that. Also be sure to use grit as well. Question: Do you have a chicken Hospital at your house? If so how often do you use it and do you believe its a mandatory thing?
